TOPEKA, KAN. (Aug. 27, 2013) – In an effort to increase the collaboration, connections and relationships among local non-profits and community members, United Way of Greater Topeka has launched Get Connected – an online volunteer and donor opportunity system. Get Connected is an easy-to-use web-based platform that matches volunteers, donors and advocates with opportunities that match their interests. Agencies post their needs on the Get Connected website at volunteer.unitedwaytopeka.org and community members can then find opportunities that best enable them to volunteer, or use their voice in ways that make a real difference.
“Some call it social media for non-profits,” said Ryan Gonzales, director of volunteer engagement for United Way of Greater Topeka. “Once a community members become involved with a non-profit, they often develop long-term relationships with the agency so both the agency and the volunteer benefit.”
Experience shows that people who volunteer for non-profits often become donors and advocates as well.
In addition to matching community members with agencies, Get Connected can help people find ways to donate unused materials and household items to agencies in need of donations.
