United Way and FamilyWize help Topekans reduce prescription costs

TOPEKA, KAN – United Way of Greater Topeka and FamilyWize have helped local Topeka residents save hundreds of thousands of dollars on their prescriptions. The FamilyWize prescription discount card has reduced the cost of medicine by an average of 35.8 percent for people living in the Topeka community.

The FamilyWize card is a free and easy to use discount card for those that are uninsured and underinsured. The card is accepted by 95 percent of pharmacies including K-mart, CVS, Target and Wal-Mart just to name a few. The card can be used on all FDA approved generic and brand name medications.

Last year the FamilyWize card was used more than 5,000 times for a savings of $106,303 on prescription costs in Shawnee County, Jackson County and Jefferson County.

United Way of Greater Topeka and FamilyWize have helped individuals and families in Shawnee County save a total of $81,658 on prescription costs this year alone.

Since being released in 2005, nationwide FamilyWize has made a huge impact and has helped almost 7 million people save more than $736 million dollars on their medications.

FamilyWize cards will also be available for pick up at the United Way of Greater Topeka located at 1315 SW Arrowhead Road.
