Successful Connections, a program of United Way of Greater Topeka, offers access to a wide array of programs and services for pregnant women and families with young children. We connect new and expecting mothers with our partnering agencies. Many of the mothers and families we serve struggle with risk factors such as poverty, mental illness, substance abuse, domestic violence and other conditions. Whether it is parenting education, health care access, financial assistance or other basic needs, we make sure our clients find the services they need.
Our Cuddle Blankets are presented as a gift to the mother and baby during our first interaction. For many of our moms, this is often the only gift or new item they will have for their baby. Many of our moms struggle with opening up and expressing their needs. We use the blankets as an ice breaker to help establish a kind, trusting rapport with a new mother at her most vulnerable moment.
Here’s How You Can Help
Volunteer to Make Cuddle Blankets
Events are held throughout the year. To find the next open event, visit the Successful Connections Agency Page on our Get Connected Site. This is also a great activity for workplace team building, volunteer events, family get-togethers or other gatherings.
Successful Connection gives away over 500 blankets a year. The average price per blanket is under $3.50. The blankets are a no-sew blanket and very easy to construct. For more information or to inquire about organizing an event, please contact Jane Redger, Assessment Specialist and Cuddle Blanket Extraordinaire: firstname.lastname@example.org
