UPDATE 10/20: Intake has been cancelled for October 31.
Since 1941, the Christmas Bureau has been brightening the holidays for families in need. The intake process for families or households that would like to be adopted this year starts on Monday, October 24, at Let’s Help, 200 S. Kansas Ave., and Deer Creek Community Center, 2345 SE 25th St.
- There will be no intake this year at Antioch Family Life Center.

There WILL be intake on October 31 this year at both locations.
- November 5 is the final day to apply at both locations. No applications can be processed after this date.
Last year the Christmas Bureau served 6,800 people from 2,200 households. Christmas Bureau adoptees receive gifts and a holiday meal from community members, local companies and churches. Individuals or groups interested in helping with the intake process should contact Kimberly Wolff (Kimberly.wolff.@unitedwaytopeka.org or 228-5120). A short training is required for intake volunteers. Training dates are being determined and will be the week prior to the first day of intake. Volunteers who speak both fluent Spanish and English are especially needed.
Those applying to be adopted must fill out an application form and provide income verification materials. Application forms and a list of acceptable verification documents will be available starting October 11 at several locations, including Let’s Help, Topeka Rescue Mission, Doorstep, Topeka Housing Authority and Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. Applicants should fill out the paperwork before coming to an intake center if possible. Intake dates and times are detailed below.
Adopting and volunteering through the Christmas Bureau is a great company, church, school and family activity. Individuals as well as groups are encouraged to participate.
