Because of the community’s generous efforts, including matching contributions from HyVee of Topeka, this year’s concert raised 3,379 pounds of food! Thanks to everyone who brought food or donated to local businesses. Donations go to Harvesters and will help those in the Topeka community.
Did you know Harvesters supports United Way’s work in education through the Back Snack program? Students in need receive a backpack of food to see them through the weekend when they don’t receive school breakfast or lunch. Research has shown that children who have to go without sufficient food on the weekend have trouble learning until Wednesday of the following week.
Band members David Lauser and Robert Berry, along with representatives of Diamond Partner the Kansas Army National Guard helped pack Back Snack bags on during their October visit to Topeka.
